Obituary
Alan Keith Cyphers, 57, of Stroudsburg, went peacefully to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Friday, October 9, 2026, at his home.
Alan was born May 8, 1969, in Stroudsburg, the son of Carl and Lanette Cyphers. He graduated from Stroudsburg High School in 1987, earned his bachelor’s degree from Messiah College in 1991, and went on to earn a master’s degree from Lancaster Bible College.
Alan never stayed in one place for long. Over the years he made his home in Colorado, Georgia and North Carolina, but he always found his way back to Pennsylvania. His career was just as varied. He served as a pastor, taught as an adjunct professor, and worked as a director of compensation for several companies. Along the way, his travels took him to many countries around the world.
Alan was a creative soul his whole life, and music was at the heart of it. He marched in the band at Stroudsburg High School and played in the concert band at Messiah College. Beyond the band room, he picked up guitar and just about any other instrument he could get his hands on, and he was always listening to something new. No matter where life took him, he found his way onto the worship team at just about every church he called home. He passed his love of music on to his children and cherished making music alongside them. In recent years he found a new creative outlet in laser engraving and embroidery, and he turned it into his own small business, 24 Sunrise, making custom pieces for loved ones and friends.
Nothing meant more to Alan than his four children. He loved them deeply and was proud of each of them, and his favorite moments were the ones spent with them, whether away on a family trip or simply sharing an ordinary day.
Alan also had a heart for helping people. He was a devoted member of the recovery community, and he gave his time freely to others walking the same road. His faith in Jesus carried him, and he held on to the words of Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Alan is survived by his children, Joshua, Zachary, Timothy (Gabrielle), and Hope; their mother, Kathleen Cyphers; his parents, Carl and Lanette Cyphers; his brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Aline Cyphers, and their family; and many friends, especially in the recovery community.
A celebration of Alan’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at Reeders Church, 2167 Route 715, Reeders, PA, with a reception to follow across the road at the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Company, 2176 Route 715, Stroudsburg. As Alan wished, his children will lay him to rest at his favorite vacation spot, a place filled with memories of the many family vacations they shared over the years.
